Sensory Smart

State-of-the-art Technology

The dental environment is a sensory-rich setting that can give many people some degree of uneasiness. Dr. Capra sought to create a sensory-sensitive dental environment to help prevent children from developing a dental aversion.

The practice was built to take into consideration the five senses:  sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste. From the overhead music, to the office decor, our goal is to create a stress-free and fun environment. The colors of the office were chosen based on the type of reaction they are known to evoke. Color psychology explores how colors that we visualize can affect our behavior and the decisions we make. The white walls create a calm, soothing, and clean environment. The floors are beige, offering warmth and a more natural and calm feel.  We added a touch of blue which is often associated with tranquility and trust.

BEAM

We strive for short wait times for our patients. In the event of a slight delay we have included the BEAM system in our practice. The BEAM is a projection system that turns the floor into an interactive playground. This fun game will keep your child wanting to return to the dental office.

CariVu

At The Kids Dental Practice we utilize technology and non-invasive dental treatment for kids who are unable to tolerate traditional dental approaches. The CariVu is a special portable camera that uses infrared light which scans the teeth to detect cavities. This can be utilized in patients who have difficulty with conventional x-rays.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

We treat patients with minimally invasive techniques when appropriate. Silver diamine fluoride is a liquid that is applied topically to a cavity to help prevent the cavity from growing. This can sometimes be used as an alternative to the traditional method of restoring a cavity.

When providing treatment we offer weighted blankets. There have been studies which suggest that weighted blankets can create a calming, soothing effect that can help ease anxiety.

Along with creating a comfortable environment, Dr. Capra uses techniques such as tell-show-do and desensitization to help manage children’s behavior.  The Kids Dental Practice will create an individualized dental experience for each patient based on their specific needs.
